Will Google’s Fi make you say bye to Verizon and AT&T?

Google’s officially launching their mobile virtual network operator(MVNO) which was previously codenamed NOVA. We’ve spoken about this topic a while ago when it leaked to BGR that Google was partnering with Sprint on a new initiative.

Google has released a new spiffy video to help make the, relatively abstract, concept more accessible to the world.

Theirstated goals:

  • Helping you get the highest-quality connection and enabling easy communication across networks and device — they’ll now be able to securely hop from WI-FI to different cell networks as you’re on the go based on who can provide the best quality.
  • Ease of payment — $20 a month, $10/GB for cellular in the US. There is tiered pricing and you can rollover unused data to the next pay period.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out and whether they’ll disrupt the entrenched telecom industry as they build an eco-system of micro-carriers.
