I spoke with Rep. Henry A. Waxman’s district director to share how this community can help his team gather high-quality feedback on policy issues. We have their ear and it’s up to us to decide if we use this opportunity.

Two ways you can help

1. What policy issues would you discuss with the Representative?

  1. Would you or your organization be interested in joining (or helping coordinate) a group to talk policy with the Representative and his staff? Note that it will likely require travel if you don’t live/have representation in LA and DC.

We’ll be aggregating your thoughts to send them to his office Monday so please respond ASAP.

Background on Rep. Henry A. Waxman

I’ve attached his full bio.

Cyrus, great idea to use this community in this way. My travel schedule is intense, but if I’m in DC I’d participate.

Some ideas for topics (note that I don’t have well-formed positions on all of these, just throwing out some ideas):

  • passing the National Endowment for the Ocean

  • implementing the National Ocean Policy

  • re-invigorating NOAA’s National Sanctuary program

  • NOAA’s budget

  • Seafood traceability

  • Preventing illegal fishing
