Shepherd Kendall

October 24, 2012

Hello!  I’m Shep Kendall and I’m a software engineer at Echo360.  My interests are software development in multiple languages, distributed systems, complex event processing, and other computer science topics.  I’m also getting a B.A. in English at George Mason University, with a concentration in Writing and Rhetoric.

Glad to be a part of the Kapuno initial launch!

Cyrus Radfar (October 24, 2012)

Didn’t realize you’re going back to school. Congrats! Psyched that at least one of us has a future :)

Shepherd Kendall (October 24, 2012)

Ha!  Thanks!  We’ll see about the future!  I was an English major in a previous life, so I have tons of credits.  Working full time, I’ll have the degree by Spring 2014.  Finally, I’ll have the sheep skin that proves I know stuff and can do stuff.

Interestingly enough, the company I work for now is attempting to revolutionize the higher educational system and change the fact that most students come out of college with tens of thousands of dollars in debt they won’t pay off until 20 years later into their careers.

Looking forward to using the new product.  Looks great so far!

Hi Cyrus.  Nothing excites me more than watching your vision go from being an idea in your mind to a well executed, beautiful website such as this!

Congratulations.

Cyrus Radfar (October 24, 2012)

I’m excited for you to start having a community of fiction writers to share your thoughts and experiences. We’ll get it together soon :) Hopeful we’ll learn a lot from pulling in the invites.

Mark Richards (October 24, 2012)

Thanks Cyrus. But I am also very interested in startups and entrepreneurship and believe that is where I can contrtibute the most.  My latest gig and the one I am most excited about is working with entrepreneurs as an “Archangel Investor”.

Iulian Dumitrascu (December 18, 2012)

One of the things I find beautiful here is that prohibiting advertising posts can bring more business.

William Valadez

October 24, 2012

Hi, I’m William. I’m a systems engineer for Opower. My interests are around building strong computing platforms for SaaS businesses, video games, and cooking. Seems like an interesting site, I look forward to watching this community come together.

Cyrus Radfar (October 24, 2012)

It’ll be a lot more interesting after we can get some communities seeded and up and running. The first few will be a learning experience. Appreciate your support.

Nick Farina

October 24, 2012

Hey, my name is Nick Farina. I’m an entrepreneur, based in NYC, currently working on JetZet, which helps frequent travelers organize plans, manage relationships, and stay informed in a single interface. I’m interested in travel - both the business and, well, actually traveling - film/theater/screenwriting, running, and debating hot topics, amongst other things ;)

Cyrus, the site looks great and I’m happy to be on board!

Cyrus Radfar (October 24, 2012)

Good to see your smiling face on here.

Jim Lane

October 24, 2012

Hi everyone, I’m Jim Lane, VP of UX at AddThis (formerly Clearspring.) I’ve worked at Revolution Health, AOL, and Netscape, and studied Cognitive Science at CMU and Film Scoring at Berklee. Excited to be part of the launch, congratulations Cyrus!

Cyrus Radfar (October 24, 2012)

Thanks Jim, didn’t realize that you are in to film and cognitive science.

Awesome to see your avatar on here. It’s quite surreal.

Justin Higgins

October 24, 2012

Hi, my name is Justin Higgins, I’m director of ad operations at LivingSocial.  I used to work with Cyrus at Clearspring/AddThis, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what kapuno is like!

Cyrus Radfar (October 24, 2012)

I can vouch for the fact that Justin taught me everything I know. Get yourself a profile pic (http://kapuno.com/settings).

Justin Higgins (October 24, 2012)

And yet I can vouch for the fact that Cyrus taught me everything I know. Inception!

Iulian Dumitrascu (December 19, 2012)

People show on kapuno what they feel and on LivingSocial what they buy.

Many people say they want a cleaner Earth and buy highly polluting products.

Would we help people if we created some mix of kapuno and LivingSocial?

Justin Higgins (December 19, 2012)

It’s certainly an interesting idea - there’s been a lot of talk recently about how sharing things with others has an impact on habits (most recent example I heard about was a test where a neighborhood’s energy use was publicly available, so everyone in the neighborhood knew what everyone else was using).

Main thing is you have to find a balance between positive sharing and something where it comes across more as showing off or trying to guilt people into action.

Dan Truong

October 24, 2012

Hi, my name is Dan Truong.  I am a film industry alum and entrepreneur based on NYC.  I’m currently working on CineStub, a place where you can collect, critique, and create impressions of movies you love!  Happy to join a new, smartly designed site like this!

Nick Farina (October 24, 2012)

Thanks for joining, Dan. I see Jim Lane also has a background in film - we’re on our way to a good film group on here!

Cyrus Radfar (October 24, 2012)

Hello fellow invitees of Kapuno! Congrats on the initial release Cyrus, it looks very polished so far. I look forward to talking with you about it more!! Way to execute.

Kurt Collins

October 24, 2012

Hey guys!

Thanks for the invite, Cyrus! I’m really happy to see Kapuno launching. :-)

For everyone else on here, I’m a serial entrepreneur working in the mobile identity space with my own start-up, Enole. I’ve been on the business development side as well as the engineering side. In addition, I’ve recently started working a lot in the education space as I co-founded a non-profit this summer teaching young black high-school –aged males out of Oakland how to code. This is on top of the work I’m doing with Youth Radio out of Oakland, also in the youth development space.

That’s me.

Cyrus Radfar (October 24, 2012)

Thanks Kurt, appreciate you introducing yourself. We really appreciate your support as we roll out.

Iulian Dumitrascu (December 19, 2012)

Enole seems to be a useful service, including for kapuno.

Thanks for introducing yourself Adam. I’m really excited to have you on board. I think there’s a lot that you know that could help game developers, technologists, and entrepreneurs.

Iulian Dumitrascu (December 19, 2012)

When I first uttered the words “life design”, I wondered how many people would accept this term. 2 million Google search results at the end of 2012.

I would like to create a website where:

  1. we describe the entire human metabolism

Its most interesting part are the feelings, but let’s focus briefly on our first need: for air.

We can add to the description e.g.:

1.1 a chapter on air quality, which by itself can be a large website

Of course, we would link to, and partner with, many first-rate websites.

1.2 methods to keep / make one’s respiratory system healthy

  1. we provide services, e.g.:

  • directories of the best specialists (coaches, therapists, consultants, linguists etc.)

  • help with forecasts and decision making

This should be no Wikipedia chapter, but an independent project meant to be informative and helpful.

The first helpful thing were that it can give a complete overview of the human beings.

This project can be a part of a practical encyclopedia of nature.

The content of this website should remain valid for many years and it should help us prepare for the near future.

Iulian Dumitrascu

December 19, 2012

First of all, I do feel like a human being and gladly meet people who are interested in psychology and history, that is their soul and their forefathers.

Then I love the best works of art, e.g. of Vivaldi.

I would love to help nature. If you are an environmentalist at heart, do contact me!

I love hiking in the mountains. The USA and India, the two countries most Internet users seem to be in, are very far away from Romania, so I don’t know if we will take such walks together.

But many Internet users can do business.

One business principle is meeting needs. We can create a global website starting from this principle. I can get creative, so, if you’re a programmer, we can team up and create great services.

I can create services cheaper than PayPal. In some countries they were a hit.

I could combine services like uQast and Pheed into one of the most important platforms on the Web.

I can create one of the best online ticketing services available and link it to related services.

Lotteries aren’t really services. But they will fare well during the following years, and I can create a complex lottery that were more generous and fun than most of the current ones.

These are not all my business ideas, and this is not everything about me.
