Start conversations via email!

Originally published on Kapuno in the Ocean Conservation community

We’re excited to announce that we’ve released the ability to start conversations via email. Our goal is to make it easier for people to be heard and part of achieving that mission involves lowering barriers to sharing. From my conversations with many of you who travel or work in the field, it became clear that email was a simple method of helping you share experiences and knowledge while you may not be able to visit us here.

It’s easy — just email ‘oceans@kapuno.com and the subject becomes the headline and the body becomes the post.

Keep a few things in mind:

  1. Remove your email signature prior to drafting/sending the email. It’s redundant information and you don’t want to share your phone number or address publicly.
  2. We’ll transfer over basic formatting like, ordered and bulleted lists, bold, underlineanditalics.
  3. Links will not automatically attach; but expect some way to attach links via email in the not so distant future.
  4. We strip any inline links and images. If you want to add a link the best way is to use a foot note, e.g. [1] and place the urls at the bottom of the post.
  5. Note that all email clients generate slightly different text that gets sent to us. Sometime spacing is changed and new lines aren’t captured. Makes sure to view your post on the site after posting.

Here’s how the flow works:

  • You must have a completed account.
  • Draft an email TO: “oceans@kapuno.com
  • Hit “Send”
  • The system will respond with an email within a minute saying either (a) the post was successfully posted and provide you a link to view it online or (b) the post requires moderation.
  • If it’s posted successfully, you’re done! If not, you’ll get another email and notification on the site when your post is reviewed.

Try to post an introduction of yourself, a story, what you’re working on or how you could be helpful to the community.

If you have questions, comments, or general feedback, feel free to post it in the responses.
