Responsive design is a phrase that’s been getting a ton of buzz recently. It’s hotly debated in the design & UX communities. I’m interested to hear what people think.

I feel responsive design is great for blogs and consumption based experiences; however, I don’t think it’s the solution for feature-rich applications as the use-cases for mobile usage may be very different than the desktop usage.

For example, with Kapuno (this product), members are more likely to consume on mobile and contribute content on mobile. That would change the priorities for the interaction design. For mobile, we’d focus more on viewing conversations, threads, profiles and marking content helpful; while on a larger form factor we would focus more on leading conversations and responding.

In the end, I’d say a responsive design is better than not working on mobile.
